Scribe Scripture is a web experiment by Cam Pak for memorizing Proverbs by typing one chapter each day as the calendar turns. The Berean Standard Bible text loads in the browser; there is no official native app for this tool.

A free, open-source Bible reading plan tracker and PWA by Ethiopian developer Gadisa Teklu. Choose popular plans or create your own, track progress across all 66 books, and access from any device. Built with Next.js and Supabase.

OpenFaith

Open-source, discipleship-first church management software with a universal sync engine for Planning Center and other ChMS platforms. Features a fast table-based interface, sacrament tracking, custom fields for all data types, and an AI-native architecture for natural language interaction with church data. Currently in free alpha; the master branch has been frozen since October 2025 while the founder's primary focus is SteepleInc/church-work, though a small community (external contributor + active bug reporter) remains engaged.

Obsidian Bible Reference Plugin

A free, open-source Obsidian plugin (MIT license) that lets you instantly look up and insert Bible verses into your notes — supporting multiple translations (WEB, KJV, NVI, CUV, DRB, UBG, BG, Korean, and Portuguese) across every platform Obsidian runs on. Includes offline Bible support with bundled WEB text, verse of the day, Literal Word linking, and a fully offline link-only insertion mode (July–Aug 2026 additions). 58k+ downloads, 68 contributors, 119 releases, actively maintained.

A free, open-source WordPress CRM for disciple-making movements: self-hosted contact, group, baptism, and church tracking with generational maps and saturation heat maps. Gospel Ambition stewards the project; field teams including the IMB use it, with community translation and an active open-source codebase.

Rock RMS is a free, open-source church management platform from Spark Development Network covering people, check-in, giving, communications, digital publishing, and engagement pathways, with AI Agents that act inside a staff member's own permissions.

AndBible

AndBible is a free, open-source Android Bible study app with split-screen commentary, Strong’s word study, a large offline SWORD library, and an optional AI assistant — no ads and no subscription. An iOS public beta is on TestFlight.

YouVersion Platform Services

Free developer platform from Life.Church’s YouVersion team with REST APIs and SDKs for embedding licensed Bible text, Sign in with YouVersion, and an open-source reader. First partners include BibleProject and Come and See (The Chosen); installable AI Skills help coding agents use the APIs.

Lessons.Church

Free, open-source church curriculum platform with 1,100+ video-based lessons for preschool through adult from 12+ providers. Built by ChurchApps (Live Church Solutions), now serving 15,000+ churches in 130+ countries. Summer 2026 added three new NextLevel adult studies (Discipleship, Evangelism, Zephaniah); companion FreePlay TV app, presenter mode, comparison pages against paid alternatives, and no login required to browse.

route.bible

A free, open-spec tool that turns Bible references into app-agnostic links and QR codes — letting anyone open a passage in their preferred Bible app or browser. Ships with a live Chrome extension that linkifies references across the web, and a Skills.sh agent skill (Bible Links) that teaches AI agents to emit portable route.bible Markdown links automatically.

Lumen

Lumen is an open-source web app for reading the Bible and asking an AI companion about Scripture. It pairs an in-browser reader with study tools and says AI should complement pastors and teachers, not replace them.

The Odin Project

A free, open-source full-stack web development curriculum with nearly 1.9 million learners. Covers HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React, Node.js, and Ruby on Rails through project-based learning and a 60,000+ member Discord community. Self-funded by donations via Open Collective since 2023. Curriculum GitHub repo has 12,900+ stars and was last updated August 2026.

LangQuest

Free, offline-first mobile app for oral Bible translation in underserved languages. Native speakers capture Scripture, stories, and songs by voice or text, validate translations through community voting, and sync when connectivity returns. Built by Frontier R&D (Ryder Wishart, PhD) as the data-collection half of a translation pipeline with Aquilla. Community members have contributed over 319,000 clips across 290 projects and 286 language profiles. Note: the GitHub repo is public but contains no LICENSE file; the website claims MIT.

A free, open-source interactive map of 422,000+ Christian churches across 19 countries — with attendance estimates, denomination filters, language tracking, country/state/metro directory pages, seasonal worldwide data reports, and community-driven corrections.

Scripture App Builder is a free desktop tool from SIL Global that lets Bible translators create customized Android, iOS, and Progressive Web Apps with synchronized text and audio — no programming required. Over 2,500 apps in 1,960 languages with 65 million installs worldwide. Actively maintained with six releases between April and August 2026 (v14.0–v14.4), including YouVersion Platform integration on both Android and iOS, direct Paratext and Scripture Burrito imports, a Compare Versions view, devotional notes in reading plans, PWA offline audio downloads, and Gloo AI as an optional faith-aligned guardrails provider for the AI Assistant.

Prayse is a free, open-source prayer journal that helps you organize requests into folders, set reminders, journal, read a daily verse, and pray with others through groups and biblical questions — on iOS and Android.

Keep in Touch (kit)

An open-source launchpad for Christian creators to share in-progress work, capture email leads, and get promoted on faith.tools — with shared sign-in and AI spam moderation. Still in beta as a faith.tools experiment.

A free, open-source, browser-based Bible study tool that lets you read and search the original Hebrew, Greek, and Aramaic texts with morphological parsing — built by James Cuénod, a PhD biblical scholar from South Africa who now serves as Senior AI Translation Technologist at Seed Company.

A free, open-source, cross-platform Bible reading app offering 146 translations in 31 languages with bookmarks, parallel reading, cross-device sync, vector/semantic search (added July 2026), and customizable themes — built by a Ukrainian developer with a Sola Scriptura conviction, actively maintained with 600+ commits and 133 GitHub stars, available on web, Android, Windows, and Linux.

A free, single-page walk through the Bible's storyline from Creation to Restoration that ends in the gospel, actively maintained on GitHub and available in more than 200 languages.

NOTE: the platform's own Gitea fork has not received a new commit since Aug 2024 (4 minor versions behind upstream); the service itself remains operational.

A free, open-source semantic Bible search tool that uses AI embeddings to find Scripture passages by meaning rather than keywords, with a live public REST API (BBE translation) for developers. Web app and API remain fully functional; repo is in stable/maintenance mode (no functional code changes since Sep 2024) while creator Tim actively maintains sibling Antioch Tech projects.

A free, open-source web app from Gracious Tech for printing customized Scripture in 800+ languages — as a fold-at-home booklet or a file for a professional printer.

Gertrude

Gertrude is an open-source family internet-safety suite for Mac, iPhone, and iPad built by a Christian homeschool dad. It defaults to blocking everything until a parent or accountability partner unlocks it, and includes Mac screenshot and keystroke monitoring, iOS Screen Time loophole blocking, a PIN-protected podcast app, and a parent-curated Apple Music player.

Biblos

Biblos is a free, open-source semantic Bible search tool powered by BGE-large-en-v1.5 embeddings. Find passages by meaning, study Greek text with the Dodson Lexicon, read Church Fathers commentary, and follow a daily reading plan — all free with no sign-up.

Gamaliel

Gamaliel is a free AI Bible study companion from Lew Cirne that answers Scripture questions with open-source Nicene guardrails. No account is required on the web or Google Play, and an iOS app is listed on the App Store.

BibleLink

BibleLink is a free, multilingual website plugin by GlobalRize that converts Bible references into hoverable links showing the verse text. Now supports 47 languages and 87+ active Bible translations, available as a WordPress plugin or lightweight JavaScript snippet, with v1.0.20 compatible with the latest WordPress releases.

Free Use Bible API

A free, open-source JSON API by AO Lab serving 1,256 Bible translations across 1,004 languages with no API keys, no usage limits, and no copyright restrictions — now with an official JavaScript/TypeScript SDK, commentary datasets, and a growing ecosystem of community integrations including MCP servers, an iOS Bible Atlas (Sacra Tabula), a Minecraft plugin, and a Roblox wrapper. 150 stars on GitHub, with API traffic nearly doubling to ~14 million hits/month as of July 2026.

Xiphos

Xiphos is a free, open-source Bible study application for Linux, UNIX, and Windows, built on The SWORD Project, with tabbed reading, a module manager, fast indexed search, Strong's and morphology display, commentaries, dictionaries, maps, and read-aloud. Windows users get an installer; Linux users typically install through their distribution or Flathub.

Gospel Onchain

An open-source project that stored the entire KJV Bible directly on the Optimism blockchain — censorship-resistant, immutable, and free to read. Built by a BuidlGuidl Ethereum developer; its first independent review (Learn of Christ, Aug 2026) affirms the engineering while noting it remains a niche, developer-oriented preservation experiment.

A free, open-source web app by SIL International for collaborative Bible translation — featuring AI-powered draft generation (powered by the open-source Serval model, now used in nearly 500 projects worldwide), Paratext integration, and community checking tools that connect translation teams with language speakers across the globe, including an emerging oral Bible translation workflow.
