ESV Bible App

The official Crossway app for reading and hearing the English Standard Version, with synced notes, reading plans, thematic playlists, and the ESV Global Study Bible. A subscription unlocks additional study Bibles, commentaries, and premium audio.

A free, open-source Bible translations platform by Gracious Tech that gives developers unrestricted CDN access to 1,404 translations across 1,116 languages, plus a TypeScript client, embeddable reader, and web enhancer. MIT-0 licensed, with no keys or rate limits.

Scripture App Builder

Scripture App Builder is a free desktop tool from SIL Global that lets Bible translators create customized Android, iOS, and Progressive Web Apps with synchronized text and audio — no programming required. Over 2,500 apps in 1,960 languages with 65 million installs worldwide. Actively maintained with six releases between April and August 2026 (v14.0–v14.4), including YouVersion Platform integration on both Android and iOS, direct Paratext and Scripture Burrito imports, a Compare Versions view, devotional notes in reading plans, PWA offline audio downloads, and Gloo AI as an optional faith-aligned guardrails provider for the AI Assistant.

Sacred Type

A gamified Bible typing test with global and per-passage leaderboards (points distributed every 30 minutes), head-to-head challenges, CPM analytics, practice mode, achievements, and a standardized WPM formula. Race through KJV or WEB passages while tracking your speed and climbing the ranks. Operates as Sacred Type, LLC — a one-man, ad-free project built alongside a full-time job.

Free Faith Comes By Hearing app for dramatized audio Scripture, Gospel Films, offline downloads, and playlists in 2,749 languages and counting. The ministry is working toward Vision 2033: audio Scripture in every language that still needs it.

Learn biblical Greek, Hebrew, and Latin through an immersive web and mobile curriculum of picture-and-video lessons, graded readers, and a path into the biblical text itself. Freemium flashcards cover all three languages; subscription and lifetime options add the full Learn and Read tracks, community, and live courses.

Parabible

A free, open-source, browser-based Bible study tool that lets you read and search the original Hebrew, Greek, and Aramaic texts with morphological parsing — built by James Cuénod, a PhD biblical scholar from South Africa who now serves as Senior AI Translation Technologist at Seed Company.

Brilliant Bible

Brilliant Bible illustrates every KJV verse in oil-painting-style art, with chapter summaries, reading plans, comic-style story adaptations, and several additional English translations. It is a subscription-based iPhone and Android app from Brilliant Illustrations; the same studio is preparing illustrated classic literature.

Y'allVersion

A Bible translation that uses "y'all" for plural "you" and "YHWH" for God's name, recovering the communal heart of Scripture. Created by DTS professor John Dyer under the Y'all Version Bible Society, available free online, on YouVersion (version 4108), and in multiple print formats on Amazon. Translation in draft status with active corrections. Endorsed by scholars at SMU and DTS; featured on Passion Equip and in Tim Wildsmith's Bible review content.

LangQuest

Free, offline-first mobile app for oral Bible translation in underserved languages. Native speakers capture Scripture, stories, and songs by voice or text, validate translations through community voting, and sync when connectivity returns. Built by Frontier R&D (Ryder Wishart, PhD) as the data-collection half of a translation pipeline with Aquilla. Community members have contributed over 319,000 clips across 290 projects and 286 language profiles. Note: the GitHub repo is public but contains no LICENSE file; the website claims MIT.

BibleLink

BibleLink is a free, multilingual website plugin by GlobalRize that converts Bible references into hoverable links showing the verse text. Now supports 47 languages and 87+ active Bible translations, available as a WordPress plugin or lightweight JavaScript snippet, with v1.0.20 compatible with the latest WordPress releases.

API.Bible

The largest Bible API available — access nearly 2,500 text and audio Bible versions in 1,600+ languages through clean REST endpoints, built by American Bible Society's Digital Bible Lab. Fully redesigned platform with free Starter and Pro plans, per-translation commercial licensing, Custom Enterprise plans on the roadmap, and an official TypeScript SDK (React and Python SDKs coming soon).

Bible Brain is Faith Comes By Hearing's developer API for Bible text, audio, and video across thousands of languages. Request an API key and build multilingual Scripture apps against documented REST endpoints.

Sparks Chinese Bible

Sparks (火花) is a British and Foreign Bible Society web platform for Chinese-speaking Christians, with dozens of Chinese and other Bible translations, original-language tools, encyclopedia and course content, podcasts, daily devotionals, and a Sparks AI study space. Live testing of the AI feature was out of scope.

Aquilla

Aquilla is a browser-based, AI-assisted translation workspace for text and audio (with video captions coming), built for Bible and resource translation in the world's low-resource languages. It is the web-based evolution of the Codex Translation Editor from Frontier R&D, using 'Living Memory' so a human expert steers while each correction compounds across the project. Currently in public beta and free for everyone; partners include Come and See (The Chosen) and Biblica.

Codex Translation Editor

Free, open-source AI-powered desktop translation editor for lean teams working on Bible translation and other high-stakes, low-resource-language projects. Translators steer while 'Living Memory' learns their voice and decisions in real time, so each correction compounds across the project. Built by Frontier R&D (co-founded by Ryder Wishart and Ben Scholtens) in partnership with Biblica and the ETEN Innovation Lab, available for macOS, Windows, and Linux. Note: Frontier R&D has launched Aquilla, a web-based successor ('Codex, rebuilt for the web'), now in public beta; the desktop editor remains actively maintained.
