Pause is a free daily soulcare app from Wild at Heart that helps busy people step out of the noise, release what they are carrying, and reconnect with God in the middle of the day.^1 Sessions last one, three, five, or ten minutes, so a pause can fit a morning, an evening, or a short break between other things.^1
Each pause is a short, guided session with music and prayer.^3 You can set reminders that fit your life, and a quick soul check-in helps you name where you are and receive a gentle next step.^1 Multi-day programs go deeper: 30 Days to Resilient and Experience Jesus. Really. are designed to strengthen your inner life and help you walk with God in a grounded, honest way.^1 The practice itself rests on three steps the ministry teaches: benevolent detachment, practicing 1 Peter 5:7 by releasing everyone and everything to Jesus; union with God, from Jesus' prayer in John 17; and being filled, from Ephesians 3:19.^4
The app comes from John Eldredge, an author, counselor, and teacher who is president of Wild at Heart, and from the books Get Your Life Back, Resilient, and Experience Jesus. Really.^5 Eldredge earned a master's degree in Counseling from Colorado Christian University and worked as a counselor in private practice before launching Wild at Heart in 2000.^5 The ministry team practiced the pause themselves for about a year before sharing it, and the app was released right before the pandemic.^4 On the Theology in the Raw podcast, Eldredge said the app "guides you in the simple practice of learning to pause, create a sacred moment," and described the release at its center this way: "We call it benevolent detachment. You just go, God, I just give you everything."^3
Wild at Heart is a supporter-funded ministry.^4 Its beliefs include the Bible as the inspired, inerrant Word of God, and the One True God eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.^5
