The name "Daystar" comes from 2 Peter 1:19 (KJV) — "until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts" — a reference to Jesus as the light in a dark world.^2
A Season of TransitionCo-founder Joni Lamb, who led the network as president following Marcus Lamb's passing in 2021, went home to be with the Lord on May 7, 2026, at the age of 65.^7 A public memorial service was held the following week at Gateway Church in Southlake, Texas, with video tributes from President Donald Trump, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Pastor Joel Osteen, and other faith leaders and friends.^6 Daystar's board stated that an executive leadership team was already in place so the ministry would continue uninterrupted, and programming has proceeded as scheduled.^7 In June 2026, the network released Joni Lamb: A Life Surrendered, a tribute special celebrating her decades of ministry.^9
Daughters Rachel Lamb Brown and Rebecca Lamb Weiss have taken up the monthly partner letter their mother used to write, telling readers they are "honored to carry the vision forward" and that the space will going forward feature messages from different members of the Daystar leadership team.^8 As of August 2026, the network has not publicly named a new president.^7
