Ever wanted to see the Gospels come alive — not as a Sunday school flannel board, but as a cinematic experience that makes you laugh, cry, and see Jesus through fresh eyes? The Chosen is the first-ever multi-season TV series about the life of Christ, told through the perspectives of the people who walked with Him.^1
Created, directed, and co-written by Dallas Jenkins, the show began as the highest crowd-funded media project in history and has since been watched by an estimated 300 million people across 175 countries — a third of whom are not religious.^2 All episodes are free to stream through the official app, with no subscriptions, no paywalls, and no ads. The app supports 197 languages, with subtitles or audio dubbing in 135, plus offline downloads, cross-device viewing, community features, and exclusive bonus content like Aftershows, Bible Roundtables, and behind-the-scenes extras you won't find anywhere else.^3
The show is produced by 5&2 Studios and distributed internationally by Lionsgate, with the non-profit Come and See Foundation funding translation into 600 languages — on a mission to reach one billion people with an authentic experience of Jesus.^4 Five seasons are currently available, with seven planned. Season 5 ("The Chosen: Last Supper") premiered in theaters in March 2025 through a deal with Amazon MGM Studios, grossing over $120 million theatrically across the series' run. Season 6 ("The Chosen: Crucifixion") will premiere November 15, 2026 on Prime Video with a three-episode debut, followed by weekly releases through December 6 — with the finale releasing as a feature film in theaters on March 12, 2027. Season 7 (the Resurrection) will follow, with its premiere hitting theaters March 31, 2028.^5
Jenkins, the son of Left Behind co-author Jerry B. Jenkins, experienced a career-defining failure in 2017 when his previous film flopped. That same night, he felt God leading him to create a short film about the shepherds at Christ's birth — which became the seed for The Chosen. "I want to be able to tell a story that reaches as many people as possible," Jenkins has said. "The Gospel is free, so The Chosen should be free."^7
The Chosen universe has expanded far beyond the flagship series: The Chosen Adventures (an animated series for families, premiered October 2025 on Prime Video), The Chosen in the Wild with Bear Grylls (unscripted), and Joseph of Egypt (a live-action limited series, coming 2027 on Prime Video) extend the storytelling into new genres and audiences.^8
Why Christians Love It"Few viewing experiences of my life have been life-changing. I'm receiving such blessing from this series, not just the episodes, but the production stories told and biblical discussions about Jewish culture from both Old & New Testament perspectives. Every time I check the content by what Scripture states, it is accurate."^3
"This show has been a blessing — The Chosen lit a fire in me to truly know God. Not just know about Him, but to seek Him — Jesus."^9
"In my 80 years, I've never felt such enthusiasm for Christ and the Bible as I have in these past few months, thanks to The Chosen. I only wish I could contribute more to the completion of all seven seasons."^4
