Most mindfulness apps will draw you inward — or away from God entirely. Reflect: Christian Mindfulness was born from a different impulse. When developer Neill Bowler was diagnosed with ME (chronic fatigue syndrome) about a decade ago, his occupational therapist suggested meditation for proper rest breaks throughout the day. The sessions helped, but Bowler felt they were pulling him away from God. So he started recording his own — each one rooted in a passage of Scripture.
"After I had a few of these I felt that it would be easier if they were presented in an app, and perhaps if a few people were blessed by this then that would be good," Bowler recalls. "I put it out there and it proved to be more popular than I expected, so I kept developing it, writing and recording new meditations."
The app is organized into focused sections: Bible reflections, imaginative contemplation that places you inside scenes from Scripture, meditation basics for newcomers, reflective prayer exercises, lectio divina sessions, stress and anxiety reflections grounded in trusting God, Christmas meditations, and laments for processing difficult seasons.^2 Each guided audio includes optional background music, and you can customize the length of silences to suit your pace. Meditations can be streamed or downloaded for offline use — and the entire app is completely free, with no ads or in-app purchases.^3
What makes Reflect stand out is its unwavering focus. As Bowler describes it: "There are so many tools out there which teach mindfulness, but that will draw you away from God or into yourself. Reflect has a set of meditations which are centred around a passage from the Bible, or to help guide you in prayer."
Built in the UK using Flutter, Reflect has grown far beyond Bowler's original hope. "When I first wrote Reflect I said to myself that if 10 people are blessed by it, then that would be a success. Now there are hundreds of people using it each day. God's plans have far exceeded what I could have imagined."
Why Christians Love It"I'm not sure why it doesn't have thousands of five star reviews because it is that good. This one is completely free but offers so much and is so well done. Have been using it every night before bed and my husband loves it too."^3
"I have honestly downloaded about around a couple dozen Christian/mindfulness apps (such as Abide, Churchome, etc.) and this one is by far the best. The meditations are so simple, spiritually rich, and easy to enter into."^3
"This app really helped me get into the word… It's the best to meditate on God's word and there's an app that allows you to do it offline and in an intuitive way."^3
