Finding a brotherhood of men who will sharpen your faith and hold you accountable is one of the deepest needs in the Christian life - and that is exactly what Promise Keepers was built to provide.^1
Founded by Coach Bill McCartney in 1990, Promise Keepers began in Boulder, Colorado, where 72 men began to pray about men coming together for Christian discipleship, and it grew into one of the most recognized men's ministries in modern church history, culminating in the "Stand in the Gap" gathering on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., on October 4, 1997, where hundreds of thousands of men gathered to pray, worship, and confess their sins together.^2 Today, under the leadership of Chairman and CEO Shane Winnings - a military veteran, former law enforcement officer, and author - the ministry runs "Wake-Up Call" men's conferences across the country, an "America Needs Godly Men" college campus tour, and a "Make Dads Great Again" campaign addressing the crisis of fatherlessness in America.^4^6
The free Promise Keepers app is the ministry's main digital platform, connecting men down the street and around the world. Men share and discuss content, find and engage with other men in their area, create private groups with discussion boards and messaging, and access a growing library of content from partners and vetted Christian leaders.^1 The ministry has expanded its "Biblical Manhood" programming to include Win The Morning, a 30-day customized program covering faith, fitness, and food, and Shane Winnings' book Men of God: A Call to Biblical Manhood (2026), calling men to holiness, integrity, and God-given purpose.^7 A "Proclamation on Godly Masculinity" initiative and a PK Ambassadors program, recruiting local leaders to bring PK resources to their cities, round out the current vision.^8 Founder Coach Bill McCartney passed away on January 10, 2025, at age 84.^9
PK also hosts Overcomers, a free weekly virtual Bible study every Wednesday at 8 PM ET led by Shane Winnings, training men to live in victory and embrace their God-given identity.^10 The ministry is built on seven promises: honoring Jesus Christ, pursuing vital relationships with other men, practicing purity, building strong marriages and families, supporting the mission of the church, reaching beyond racial and denominational barriers, and influencing the world in obedience to the Great Commandment and the Great Commission.^11 Promise Keepers is an ECFA member (Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability) since 1994.^3
