For the world's 70 million sign language users, reading a printed Bible can feel like a barrier between them and God's Word. The Deaf Bible app bridges that gap, delivering Scripture in video-based sign language so Deaf believers and seekers can encounter the Bible in their heart language.^1
Built by Deaf Bible Society — a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that spun out of Faith Comes by Hearing in 2015 — the app hosts the largest collection of sign language Scripture videos in the world.^2 Users can browse content in 78 sign languages (and growing), watch skilled signers present passages in sharp, close-up color video, adjust playback speed, follow along with video watch plans, and download content for offline viewing. The app also integrates with Deaf Church Where, a companion tool that helps users find Deaf-friendly churches nearby.^3
A landmark moment came in 2020 when the American Sign Language Version (ASLV) — a complete Bible translation that took over 38 years of work — was finalized and made available through the app.^2 New translations are launching rapidly, and the goal is for every sign language community to have Scripture access by 2033. In 2024 alone, the app saw nearly 2 million video streams across 100+ countries.^1
The organization is led by President and CEO Chantel Pagán, who has said: "When someone sees Scripture in their own sign language, it validates that they matter... They are discovering that God knows their language and they are fully welcomed into His family."^2
Why Christians Love It"My three year old son is deaf and I'm so excited to have this app as a tool to help teach him about the Word."^4
