The app began when Kelley Farris wanted to help his mother, who has macular degeneration, continue reading Scripture. What started as large text and text-to-speech features grew into a full discipleship toolkit: a daily AI-generated devotional called Daily Bread (refreshed every midnight EST and shared across the whole community), an Ask Scripture Q&A feature that returns Scripture-grounded responses rooted in KJV and NASB, custom topic-based AI studies, reading plans with streak tracking, sermon notes, and group study tools.^1
The audio Bible uses Google Neural TTS for natural-sounding narration with per-verse highlighting, making it especially useful for those with visual impairments or anyone who prefers listening on the go. The prayer journal lets users log requests, mark them answered, and build a personal record of God's faithfulness over time.^1
HisWord is free to start — the shared Daily Bread devotional, the full KJV Bible reader with audio, three Ask Scripture questions per week, basic prayer journaling, reading plans, and study groups. Premium unlocks on-demand custom AI studies, unlimited Ask Scripture questions, sermon notes, and unlimited text-to-speech audio. The platform operates with a clear AI policy: AI-generated content is explicitly framed as devotional and educational — not a substitute for professional pastoral care, counseling, or medical advice — and the service publishes both a Privacy Policy and Terms of Service (effective April 2026).
