Am I open-handed? 🤲
That's a question I want myself to consider and every Christian in tech to consider.
Do I see my neighbor as my brother or sister? Or, do I see them as competition?
Do I honor those doing similar ventures? Or, do I dishonor them?
Do I celebrate the successes of them? Or, do I celebrate in their failures?
"I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me."
John 17:20-21, ESV
Jesus prayed that we'd be one, united with one another and the Trinity.
And… I didn't always get it right.
I admit and regret being on the side of seeing others doing similar things in the faith and tech space as being my competition. I felt I had something to prove. I wanted Bible.com to do better than another Bible app.
Why? For what benefit?
I was acting in fear, in a scarcity mindset. Imposter syndrome felt so big and I felt so small. What I put my identity in felt at stake. I was a programmer for the Lord, but… what if I didn't perform? What if I didn't have what it took?
Then after a deep sickness of around 7 months, God began to dismantle those beliefs that were on a foundation of lies and showed me the truth in His Word. I began to learn about my identity in God. I learned more and more about surrender and trusting in God for today.
Lord, you are enough for today.
The same Lord who can raise up a venture and conclude a venture is the Lord we serve.
We serve the same good Lord.
I'm reminded of this verse: "Whoever is not against us is for us." Mark 9:40, ESV.
There's room for multiple Bible apps. There's room for multiple prayer apps. There's room for you. There's room for me.
"In my Father's house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also."
John 14:2-3 ESV
There's room for me, and there's room for you.
Lord, help us to see one another. Break down every wall we've raised up against someone who is for You. Help us to not only see one another, but to reach out and help one another. We are better together. You prayed that we'd be in unity. For any area where unity lacks, make it known. We surrender to you. And, thank you for what you will do through this surrender. Thank you for the future collaboration. Thank you for the freedom that comes when we surrender. Amen
We in faith and tech are better together.
