If you've ever fumbled between browser tabs trying to copy a Bible verse into a sermon outline or study guide, BibleBolt was built for you. Created by Bible Society — the UK-based mission founded in 1804 to help people discover Scripture — BibleBolt is a free add-on that lets you insert and format Bible verses directly inside Google Docs and Microsoft Word, no copy-paste gymnastics required.^1
With a simple toolbar button or keyboard shortcut, you can search any passage and drop it into your document with clean, consistent formatting — verse numbers, headings, and all.^2 BibleBolt connects to the Digital Bible Library and currently supports over ten translations including the NIV, ESV, KJV, NASB 2020, NLT, The Message, GNB, GNT, and CEV. It even works across seven languages: English, Welsh, Spanish, German, French, Italian, and Portuguese.^1
BibleBolt was born at Kingdom Code BUILD, a Christian tech hackathon in the UK, where the Google Docs version was first prototyped. Bible Society brought it back the following year to expand into Microsoft Word and beyond.^3 The add-on is actively maintained by a responsive team — the developer, Kirill Popov, regularly engages with user feedback and ships fixes quickly.^2
