Most audio Bibles are read exclusively by men — and for many women, that gap matters more than you'd think. her.BIBLE offers the entire Bible read aloud by an ethnically diverse group of women in the New Living Translation, completely free.^1
Created by Jenny Steinbach, a 30-year Cru staff member who now serves as the project's director, her.BIBLE grew from a simple observation during long commutes: nearly every audio Bible featured only male voices. "If only men are allowed to speak God's Word, then what does that say to young women?" she asked.^2 Beginning in 2017, Jenny recruited Christian voiceover artists of various backgrounds to record Scripture with warmth, compassion, and natural inflection.
The app features highlighted text that syncs with audio so you can read along, easy chapter-and-verse navigation, and reliable streaming. The full Old and New Testaments are available, and a Spanish version is currently being recorded.^3
What sets her.BIBLE apart is who it reaches. Listeners around the world — from busy moms to seminary students to women healing from trauma — describe the experience as deeply personal. One woman in South Africa began listening while exercising and before sleeping: "Thanks to her.BIBLE, I've never felt so much peace in my life." She went on to pursue baptism.^5 A family member who wasn't a believer started listening daily after a recommendation, asked for a Bible, and began a relationship with Jesus.^5
The team also produces "her STORY," a podcast featuring real women's faith journeys with guests including Raechel Myers (She Reads Truth co-founder), Jinger Duggar Vuolo, Madison Prewett Troutt, and Margaret Feinberg.^6
Why Women Love It"As a woman who has spent many years in male-dominated churches, hearing the Bible in women's voices is such a gift. I love the variety of voices and accents."^1
"A friend who has been hurt by the male gender recommended this app. I realized how safe I felt in the village of these beautiful women's voices. I listened from Genesis to Revelation."^1
"I've listened to many audio bibles and always fallen asleep at the male monotone voices. The female narrators are great at inflection. I find myself paying much more attention."^1
