her.BIBLE is a free audio Bible from Cru that lets listeners hear Scripture read by an ethnically diverse group of women.^1 The ministry speaks to people who have felt unseen by God or intimidated by His Word, and offers the recording as a more personal way to meet Jesus in Scripture.^2
The English edition uses the New Living Translation.^1 In the app, listeners can pick up where they left off, choose specific verses for encouragement or study, highlight and save verses, and adjust the speed and sound.^3 New listeners can start in the Gospel of Luke with a short guide, and can join a Listening Group to listen and reflect with women around the globe.^4 The team also hosts her STORY, a podcast of conversations with women living out God's Word, and the audio is also available through YouVersion.^5
Jenny Steinbach, a longtime Cru staff member, created her.BIBLE with female voices in 2016 after years of working with Jesus Film Project and Cru City.^7 She found that few audio Bibles included women's voices, and the ones that did sounded robotic, were not in modern English, or were not free.^7 She joined the ministry team behind Cru's radio program as an audio producer to build the project, and in 2017 she began recruiting women to record books of the Bible.^7
The ministry's language page lists partner recordings in Arabic, English (UK), Hindi, Japanese, and Romanian alongside the English and Spanish editions, plus coaching resources that guide a team through building, recording, and launching in a new language.^8 The Spanish edition lives at herbible.es, and Cru reports that Spanish production has now reached twenty percent of the Bible, with Psalms the most recently published book and a Spanish app available for download.^9 Giving through Cru keeps the resources free.^11
