Ever wish you could sit in on a seminary class taught by a world-class biblical scholar — for free, at your own pace, from your couch? BibleProject Classroom makes that possible, offering self-paced courses that walk you verse-by-verse through books of the Bible with the depth of graduate-level study and the accessibility of a YouTube video.^1
Each class is led by Dr. Tim Mackie (co-founder of BibleProject, with a Ph.D. in Hebrew Bible from the University of Wisconsin-Madison) or a guest scholar like Dr. Lucy Peppiatt (1 Corinthians) or Dr. Carmen Imes (Exodus Overview). Sessions run 20–30 minutes and include video lectures filmed with a live cohort of students, detailed teacher's notes, interactive quizzes, and reflection questions — all designed to help you not just learn about the Bible but learn to meditate on it. The library spans 15 classes covering the full arc of Scripture — seven courses through Genesis, plus Exodus, Ezekiel, Jonah, two courses on Matthew's Gospel (part of a planned seven-class series), Paul's letters to the Corinthians and Ephesians, and a Hebrew word-study skills course. Literary design patterns, Hebrew word studies, and the Bible's unified narrative arc are recurring threads that connect every class.^1
Founded in 2014 by Tim Mackie and filmmaker Jon Collins — long-time friends and one-time roommates at Multnomah University in Portland, Oregon — BibleProject started with two animated videos and a whiteboard. Today it's a crowdfunded nonprofit with resources in 50+ languages, and Classroom represents their deepest educational offering: the equivalent of sitting in Tim's classroom without the tuition bill. The organization is led by CEO Steve Atkinson and guided by the conviction that "the Bible is a unified story that leads to Jesus."^2
Classroom content has also found its way into prisons through a partnership with Pando, a Christian tablet program that brings BibleProject classes to incarcerated men and women across the country.^3
Why Christians Love BibleProject Classroom:
"I really loved the clarifications of the Hebrew and the meanings and intentions behind the writings. Our translations often seem to miss something. Without knowing Hebrew and Greek, it is a hard task to truly appreciate the depths and underlying meanings of the Holy Scriptures." — Kevin F., who completed the Adam to Noah class^1
"I've long loved getting housework done while listening to the podcast, but I haven't had the ability to sit in front of a computer long enough to do a class — until a newborn and the ability to do classes on a phone happened! The classes have been the perfect thing to fill my brain with in the long nights of feeding a baby. My faith and intellect have been challenged in the best ways." — Kerstin G.^1
"Your project has broken down and made learning about the Bible, and Jesus's teachings exciting for me… You guys have become a part of my morning routine, my drives listening to the podcast, and every now and then I'll sit in on a class. They are all amazing, in their own ways, and really give learning opportunities for guys like me. To really soak it in… it's never too late to metanoia!" — App Store reviewer^4
"I have taken all of The Bible Project classes and each time I walk away utterly amazed at how beautiful God's Word is. Thank You to Dr. Tim and the entire staff." — Facebook commenter on the Messianic Torah release^5
Classroom is also used by small groups, churches, and Christian schools, with leaders showing sessions and facilitating group discussions afterward.^6
