Want to memorize more of God's Word but not sure where to start — or how to stick with it? Bible Memory Community is a free online space where over 3,000 believers from around the world gather to encourage one another and stay accountable in their Scripture memorization goals.^1
Hosted on Circle, the community is organized around practical spaces: weekly goal-setting threads, 7-Day Challenges where members set a personal target and check in daily, a "Share Your Wins" board for celebrating milestones, and a Reflection & Application space for sharing how God is speaking through memorized passages.^2 Founder Josh Summers posts regular video updates and the community runs periodic live events, including Town Halls and the annual in-person Scripture Sync conference in Dallas.^3
What makes this community unique is its origin story. Josh, an entrepreneur who lived in a politically sensitive region of China, was detained by local police in 2017. During those hours in a small prison cell, he realized that if his Bible and devices were taken away, he had very little Scripture committed to memory. That wake-up call led him to set a goal to memorize the entire New Testament word-for-word — and Bible Memory Goal became his way of documenting the journey and inspiring others to join.^4 Josh has since memorized over ten books of the Bible and authored Memorize What Matters, an Amazon bestseller with 100+ reviews sharing 12 proven strategies for Scripture memorization.^5
Beyond the community, Josh produces the Memorize What Matters podcast (204 episodes, available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and YouTube Music) with weekly episodes featuring interviews with expert memorizers, practical methods, and devotional encouragement.^6 The Bible Memory Goal YouTube channel has grown to over 43,200 subscribers and 650+ videos, featuring book recitations from memory, collaboration videos with ministries like Stand to Reason and Bible Nerd Ministries, and live workshop streams.^7
In 2025, the community completed its Psalms Project — a collaborative effort to recite the entire book of Psalms from memory, documented on the YouTube channel.^7 For Easter 2026, Patrons recited the entire Gospel of Luke from memory across a series of daily videos — chapters 1–4 through 21–24.^8 In May 2026, Josh interviewed Dr. Craig Keener on ancient memory techniques that preserved the Bible, and was himself interviewed by Dr. Kenneth Berding of Biola University's Talbot School of Theology about Bible memory strategies on the Kindle Afresh blog.^9
Scripture Sync Dallas 2026 took place June 19–20 at Woodcreek Church in Dallas, TX, with speakers including Jonathan Bradford (who has memorized the entire New Testament), Janet Pope (author of His Word in My Heart), and Community Director Becky Friberg. Workshop replays are now available to community members.^3
Community Director Becky Friberg helps foster engagement alongside Josh, organizing 7-Day Challenges, Town Halls, and community feedback surveys. Becky has most recently memorized the book of Hebrews.^3
The community offers diverse small groups organized by life stage and interest — Young Adults + Teens, Parents with Kids, Memory after 50, Pastors + Ministry Leaders, Creative Memory Methods — as well as language-specific groups for Spanish/Portuguese and German speakers. A learning center hosts courses including Bible Memory Training, How to Memorize Numbers, and Bible + AI Training.^1
