I create a free account, name the kinds of books I enjoy, and buy only the titles I want. Those purchases stay in my Chirp library to stream or download, and the books are mine to keep.^1

Current store listings include offline listening, CarPlay, Android Auto, a sleep timer, bookmarks, and adjustable speed.^8 Chirp is available in the United States and Canada.^2 If a title is a poor fit, their how-it-works page still says they will refund the purchase.^1
