Looking for a way to introduce kids to the Catholic faith through something they already love — video games? Wanderlight: A Pilgrim's Adventure is an adventure game from Loyola Press that invites players of all ages to step into the shoes of "the Pilgrim" and embark on a journey of spiritual discovery.^1
Across seven quest-filled levels, players explore three realms — the Valley, the City, and the Forest — each with its own Catholic church where they can learn about the sacraments and sacramentals. A special Lantern grows brighter or dims based on the player's choices to reflect God's love, and a companion dove (a symbol of the Holy Spirit) guides the way. The game is fully narrated, making it accessible even to pre-readers ages four and up. Players can retreat to a Prayer Tent at any time to experience Catholic prayers, songs, and core tenets of the faith.^2
Described as possibly "the first unapologetically Catholic video game," Wanderlight was developed by Loyola Press — a Chicago-based Jesuit publishing ministry with over 100 years of service. Loyola Press President Joellyn Cicciarelli shared that the game's goal is "to love and honor life rather than hate or kill," with help coming from the Holy Spirit rather than weapons. The Pilgrim character is inspired by St. Ignatius of Loyola himself, who referred to himself as "the Pilgrim" in his autobiography.^3
Please note: As of early 2026, new purchases are no longer available on the App Store or Google Play. Customers with active licenses retain access until their license term ends.^2
Why Christians Love It"My 9yo and 7yo have been playing this game since it released and love it! They enjoy the game and also learning about their Catholic faith."^2
"This game sets a young explorer on a pilgrimage and introduces them to many of Jesus' teachings and the men and women of Church history. I just love having my children interacting with so many different people in the community and making learning fun."^2
"It's a game where they're going to learn about the sacraments. They're going to study the pillars of the Catholic faith. They're going to learn prayers. They're going to meet saints and holy people." — Joellyn Cicciarelli, Loyola Press^3
