Want to actually enjoy listening to the Bible? audibible brings Scripture to life with word-by-word audio synchronization — each word highlights as it's spoken, keeping you locked in and immersed.^1 Built by solo French developer Stéphane Montlouis-Calixte (le studio 316), audibible uses AI-generated narration to offer the entire Bible in audio, paired with intelligent background music that matches the mood of each passage, ambient soundscapes like rain or a crackling fireplace, and a distraction-free Focus Mode for deep reading.^2
Beyond audio Bible listening, audibible includes curated reading plans, daily podcasts with short reflections, and the ability to search for specific verses to listen to. The app supports both English and French, with multiple voice options and Bible versions. Offline listening is available via downloadable playlists and chapters.^3
Stéphane started audibible in September 2023, inspired by a fascination with AI text-to-speech technology and a desire to make quality audiobooks affordable — recording the Bible's 1,200+ chapters with human narrators would be prohibitively expensive. Despite financial hurdles and rejection from Christian companies, he persisted, leveraging open-source AI tools and beta credits to bring his vision to life.^4
