Every day, millions of students walk through school doors across America — and someone, somewhere, is praying for their protection. School Prayer Challenge is a free app that unites Christians in targeted prayer for all 132,000 public and private schools in the United States.^1
The concept is simple but powerful: open the app, find schools on an interactive map, add them to your prayer list, and log each time you pray. The map uses color-coded icons — blue for schools no one has claimed, orange for schools with active prayer coverage — so you can see at a glance where prayer is needed most.^2 Five written prayers are built into the app, covering protection from harmful intent, calamity, injury, violence, and falsehood.^1 Most users commit to praying for two schools near them and one in an underserved area, then challenge four friends to join.^2
The app was inspired by the 1986 Cokeville, Wyoming school hostage crisis, where 136 children and 17 teachers were held at gunpoint with a live bomb. As students and teachers prayed together, the bomb detonated but miraculously only killed the two perpetrators — every hostage survived. The story was later told in the 2015 film The Cokeville Miracle.^3
