Most people commit to two nearby schools and one where the map does not yet show prayer, then invite four friends to share the app.^2 Five written prayers ask protection from harmful intent, calamity, injury, violence, and falsehood.^1 The homepage sets Jeremiah 32:39 over the work, the promise that God will give his people one heart and one way.^1
The challenge takes its inspiration from Cokeville, Wyoming, where on May 16, 1986, two people held an elementary school hostage with a homemade bomb. The bomb detonated, yet only the perpetrators died, and all the children, teachers, and staff survived.^3 The organization's guide calls that outcome a testimony to the power of prayer and the reason for persistent, committed prayer over each school, a story told in the 2015 film The Cokeville Miracle.^3 Its materials also remember the school tragedies at Uvalde, New London, and Bath.^1
School Prayer Challenge is a registered nonprofit corporation based in North Richland Hills, Texas, and gifts to it are tax-deductible.^3 The March 2026 store updates added a Children's Literacy Project challenge.^2 The Children's Literacy Project's SET FREE church campaign includes the app in its campaign kit, describing it as specially designed for the campaign to keep a congregation connected to its local schools through the week.^4 Billy Taylor of The Daily Promise has pointed listeners to the app as a way to pray for protection around local schools.^5
