Charley Humbard founded the company in 2004 as Gospel Music Channel, now the cable network UPtv, after leaving Discovery and deciding, following September 11, 2001, to build entertainment that would uplift people and encourage family connections.^8 In a published interview, Humbard said, "It is really a way to super serve the fan base because you'll find a lot more faithful titles, Christian titles on that platform than you will on the network itself."^9 Humbard stepped away at the end of 2025; Philip Manwaring now leads as CEO, and Reta Peery serves as President and COO.^8
