Ever wish you could use your accounting skills, web design chops, or counseling experience for the Great Commission — without quitting your day job? That's the heart behind Switchboard.^1
Founded in 2020 by Scott Elequin — a software engineer turned mission-driven leader — Switchboard is a nonprofit platform that matches skilled believers (called "Kingdom Consultants") with missionaries and Great Commission organizations who need their expertise.^2 Think of it as a matchmaking service for the Kingdom: a bookkeeper in Ohio helps a missionary in Burundi get their finances straight, a cybersecurity expert advises a ministry working in sensitive regions, a graphic designer creates branding for a human trafficking relief organization.^1
The concept is simple but powerful: only about 1% of believers will serve cross-culturally, but Switchboard empowers the other 99% to make a meaningful impact from wherever they are.^1 Volunteers can offer one-time 60-minute consultations or commit to ongoing virtual roles — no travel, no fundraising, just their God-given skills put to work.
Switchboard partners with some of the largest mission organizations in the world, including Pioneers, Christar, Cru, Frontiers, and Missio Nexus.^3 A Missio Nexus Collaboration Grant funded the development of their Church Global Ministry Engagement Kit and Ministry Expansion Kit — resources that help churches and cross-cultural workers launch virtual missions programs.^4
"Switchboard was super simple to use. Within a week of signing in, I was on a call," shared one missionary in the Middle East. "The connection was perfect, and they answered all my questions."^5 Another partner from Unbound Now Indonesia said, "It really allows us to connect believers all across the world, and I think it's a beautiful thing because we get to see the Church and the Body of Christ represented through tangible actions."^1
With 2,000+ believers on the platform and a growing catalog of skill categories — from software engineering and fundraising to education and cross-cultural ministry — Switchboard is making "virtual missions" a real and thriving movement. The service is completely free for missionaries and organizations.^2
As Scott puts it: "I keep meeting people who don't think their skill can be used in the Great Commission... and then I get a call two days later and there's somebody that needs that exact thing. How cool is God?"^2
