Apologist AI is a free conversational AI from The Apologist Project, a nonprofit that exists to further the gospel of Jesus Christ by engaging seekers and believers through chat. They are drawn from a carefully curated library of biblical and apologetic resources, pulled in at the moment a question is asked, with guardrails that keep responses anchored in orthodox doctrine.^3 By the project's own count, it has answered more than 2.5 million faith questions in about 200 languages across more than 205 countries, in more than 600,000 gospel conversations.^4 A Muslim-focused version, Alim, meets seekers at alim.apologist.ai.^5
Ministries can run the same engine as a branded white-label chatbot: their own teaching answers first, with the curated Christian corpus filling the gaps, plus voice agents, no-code conversation workflows, and a handoff to real people.^6 Developers can connect through an OpenAI-compatible API and MCP.^6 The seeker chat at apologist.ai stays free, funded by donations, while ministry platform pricing varies by model and ministry needs.^2
The ministry began in 2003 as Abiding Grace and Peace Ministries, and in 2023, under Jake Carlson, it was reimagined as The Apologist Project, a push to bring Christian apologetics into the AI era.^2 Carlson grew up as a missionary kid in China and built Apologist.ai after years in software development at Oracle and Apple.^2

Notable:
- In the project's Scripture quotation study, 33,000 tests across ten models and ten translations found that only a method that swaps in the real, licensed verse text instead of letting the model generate it quoted Scripture with 100 percent exact accuracy in English, and the test harness is open-sourced so anyone can check the result.^8
